Doublewide
by Stephen Spotswood
Directed by Cristina Alicea *NNPN Rolling World Premiere* produced January 24-February 11, 2018 The Starkey's version of the American Dream is a modest one: to build a home on their one-acre plot of land, replacing their double wide trailer with something their daughter can eventually inherit. When their aspirations are challenged by forces beyond their control, the family must decide just how far they will go to hold on to them and to each other. Doublewide is a heartfelt and resonant new play about a working class family’s elusive dreams.

Preview of DOUBLEWIDEReviews"With the Trump era’s focus on the tragedies of today’s working class, Stephen Spotswood’s new play “Doublewide” paints a realistic but sensitive picture that is also quite entertaining. Vermont Stage opened its production Wednesday at FlynnSpace, and beautifully delivered the heart of one family’s plight, as well as the love that allows them to survive." —The Rutland Herald "Doublewide doesn't confront poverty, but it does ask us to see the warmth and value of people often consigned to the margins of society. The play's realistic texture and gentle humor won over the opening-night audience by showing that behind the walls of a trailer are people worth attention and stories worth telling" — Seven Days Doublewide is being produced by Vermont Stage as part of a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere. Other partnering theatres are Florida Repertory Theatre (Fort Myers, FL), Florida Studio Theatre (Sarasota, FL) and Williamston Theatre (Williamston, MI). For more information please visit nnpn.org.
