And Then They Came For Me:
Remembering the World of Anne Frank
Remembering the World of Anne Frank
by James Still
directed by Wendi Stein This spring, Vermont Stage and Temple Sinai will be hosting school day performances of And Then They Came For Me, by James Stills, specially designed for local high school and middle school students, followed by a discussion of its impact and relevance to their lives today, led by the dynamic Rabbi David Edelson. At a time when human rights atrocities are on the rise and authoritarianism is gaining traction around the globe, it is a story for everyone. And Then They Came for Me is a unique theatrical experience: a live stageplay that recreates the true story of two youths (ages 13-18) that survived the Holocaust, integrating videotaped interviews of their reflections on their experiences. Ed Silverberg was Anne Frank's first boyfriend; Eva Schloss lived in the same apartment building in Amsterdam, and went into hiding the same day as the Frank family. Part oral history, part dramatic action, part direct address, part remembrance, the internationally acclaimed And Then They Came for Me is, at its heart, two people telling their experience of this shocking time, much like Anne Frank's, only they survived. Running Time: 2 hours, which includes a 30 minutes talkback. Produced in partnership with the Halt Hate Campaign. To learn more about how you can bring your student group to your school, please connect Shoshannah, Education Coordinator, at [email protected]. |

The stark reality struck me as no production of The Diary of Anne Frank ever has. It was stunning and brought tears to my eyes and those of others around me.
