James O’Halloran
James O’Halloran grew up in Vermont jamming at Nectars, studying jazz with Paul Asbell and composition at the University of Vermont. With a scholarship to the Cristina Heeren Foundation for Flamenco Arts in Sevilla, Spain he studied flamenco with Maestros Miguel Angel Cortes and Enrique Vargas.
O’Halloran is the creator of “The Song Catcher” a language and fine arts program to improve the reading and writing abilities of Native American youth in Tohono O’odham and Navajo Nations. It has gained the praise of legendary activist and musician Buffy Sainte-Marie.
A member of the Nashville Association of Songwriters his songwriting has been called “pure unadulterated Americana…with superb imagery” and he has shared the stage with blues greats like Koko Taylor, Junior Wells and James Cotton. His new CD “Stories that Rhyme” will be released in December.
A former faculty at Flynn Arts, King Street After-School Director, Artist-in-Residence on Tohono O’odham Nation, and Walt Disney Ambassador for Mickey Mouse’s 65th Birthday Party, James is excited to be back with Vermont Stage.
