Ghostlight Residency

May 5 & 6, 2026 at Main Street Landing
Tuesday & Wednesday at 7:30pm
Additional performances may be added based on demand.

New this season, Vermont Stage is partnering with local artists to develop bold work that expands what we can offer beyond our mainstage productions, including devised, experimental, or interdisciplinary performances. Presentations take place on the dark days of a mainstage run, often on the existing set, inviting audiences into a theatre space that is already alive with another story. The result is a short series of performances and post-show conversations that keep the lights on between productions: intimate, surprising, and rooted in our community.

This season’s resident artists are The LeAb Iteration Lab. More information about the performance will come in early Spring.

PICK YOUR PRICE TICKETS

"Pick Your Price" tickets are geared towards making our plays more accessible to all.

When purchasing a ticket, you'll be given three different price options. Please choose the ticket price that makes the most sense for you
– based on what you can afford and how you'd like to show your support.

ENCORE PRICE - $44
When you buy this ticket, you help underwrite our shows by paying closer to the actual price it costs per seat to produce our plays. You also help increase access for other community members so they can attend our shows, too.

BRAVO PRICE - $39
This represents our standard price for a ticket and this is what we recommend you buy if you've been to our shows before.

APPLAUSE PRICE - $34
This is our entry level price for patrons who want to try attending a show for the first time. It's also for those who feel that the other prices are outside their budget this year.

We've also eliminated transaction fees, so you can purchase online, over the phone, or in person without an extra charge.
ABOUT THE RESIDENT ARTISTS

The LeAb Iteration Lab is a creative partnership between Leah Souffrant and Abby Paige dedicated to performance research. The Lab is led by a shared commitment to the processual -- iterating, risk-taking, mistake-making, and the revelations that emerge from repetition, rehearsal, and revision. Together and with audiences, they create experimental performance works to better understand how people perceive and make meaning. With the Ghostlight Residency, they will create a new iteration of a movement-based, devised performance that has been in development since 2023. This show invites audiences to encounter their own attention and share their inner experience with each other.
Abby Paige
Abby Paige is a Burlington-based writer and theater artist with a varied background in comedy, poetry, collaborative creation, and solo performance. Born and raised in Vermont, her work often questions the borders between places, peoples, languages, and realities, and how such borders shape our identities. Her two solo shows, which explore the French-Canadian presence in northern New England, are collected in the bilingual book, Piecework: Two Plays / Travail à la pièce: deux pièces de théâtre. Her writing has appeared in the US and Canada, and her creative practice straddles the border between the two countries.
Leah Souffrant
Leah Souffrant is a writer, scholar, visual artist, and professor of writing at New York University. Her writing and scholarship often involve literature, visual studies, performance, poetics, and translation. Her writing often explores how we look, learn, and know, with an emphasis on the aesthetics of silence and the entangled relationship between argument and oppression. As a visual artist, Leah is often interested in words as images, images as texts, and communication that transcends language. Her books are Entanglements: Threads woven from history, memory and the body and Plain Burned Things: A Poetics of the Unsayable.
ABOUT THE GHOSTLIGHT RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Ghostlight Residency is Vermont Stage’s newest initiative, created to support bold artists and expand what is possible on our stage.

Each season, Vermont Stage partners with one artist or artist group to develop and present a performance project, with a special focus on forms we do not always feature in our mainstage season: devised work, experimental performances, interdisciplinary pieces, and projects that are ambitious in both vision and process. The resident artist leads the creative direction, while Vermont Stage serves as a producing partner, offering rehearsal time, production support, and a public platform to share work in progress.

Ghostlight Residency performances take place during the “dark” days of a mainstage production, often on the existing set. By inviting artists to create work within a space already alive with another story, the residency embraces the spirit of the ghost light itself: keeping the theatre active, imaginative, and open between performances. Each residency culminates in a short run of public performances paired with post-show conversations that invite audiences into the creative process.

We created the Ghostlight Residency to invest in local creativity, widen the range of performances we can offer, and ensure Vermont Stage remains a place where new work is not only presented, but made.
The Ghostlight Residency will take place at Main Street Landing Black Box Theatre located at 60 Lake Street, 3rd Floor, Burlington, VT 05401.

The Lobby and Box Office opens an hour prior to showtime. The performance space doors will open a half hour prior to showtime. All performances are General Admission seating.

ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES: If you would like reserved seats or have any questions about accessibility, please email [email protected] or call our Administrative Office during Box Office hours (M-F, 11am-3pm) at 802-862-1497.
