In a small English town in the 1930s, a group of miners decided to take an art appreciation class. Realizing the class was a bit boring for the group, their art teacher decided to have the miners paint instead. Soon, they discovered their passion for art and their work became sought after by galleries and collectors across the globe. From the writer of the hit musical "Billy Elliot," "The Pitmen Painters" takes you on an unforgettable journey from the depths of the mine to the heights of fame. Based on the true story of The Ashington Group. This play is finally coming to stage after a 2 year delay!

The Pitmen Painters is appropriate for ages 12 & up. Running Time: 2 hours and 15 minutes with one intermission. Here's a link to the show's program.

Written partly in response to cuts in arts endowments and education, [the play] belongs to a fine old British tradition of establishment-challenging theater.
